Teksun brings edge computing, IoT and AI applications into focus with Quectel SC600T modules
Teksun has selected Quectel’s SC600T new generation multi-mode smart LTE Cat 6 wireless module with built-in Android 9.0 operating system for integration into its Tejas Solutions, the Tejas SOM™, Tejas Camera™, Tejas TV™ and Tejas Tablet™. The artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled Tejas Solutions offer high-end IoT and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities along with 4K camera capabilities supported by powerful hardware specifications and the state-of-the-art firmware capabilities of Android 9.0.
Focused on camera-based IoT and AI applications, the Tejas SOM offers LTE, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) wireless connectivity as well as GPS access along with a comprehensive range of functions that include camera recording, recognition, an anti-theft system as well as the ability to utilize artificial intelligence to increase the richness of camera applications. With the advanced Quectel SC600T hardware Teksun has focused on building its Tejas Solutions mainly for edge computing applications with a high power octa core chipset along with direct cloud connectivity provided by LTE Cat 6 wireless technology for different B2B applications.
Teksun’s Tejas Solutions are made with supporting different IoT edge computing applications in mind and in such a way that Tejas SOM can integrate with the Tejas Camera, Tejas TV, Tejas Tablet and Tejas IoT Gateway. This opens up multiple Industry 4.0 use cases for edge computing solutions including tracking, monitoring, predictive maintenance and automation.
Suitable for both indoor and outdoor deployments the Tejas Camera, Tejas TV and Tejas Tablet are robust and reliable with strong ABS plastic enclosures, allowing customers to deploy the devices in a wide variety of situations. Teksun says Tejas SOM’s small form factor of 60mm x 60mm x 25mm is unrivalled for a camera with the functionality of the Tejas Camera, which includes two full high definition (HD) cameras with 1080 pixel resolution at 30 frames per second or single 4K Camera support. In addition, Tejas Camera offers night vision thanks to its Sony STARVIS™ technology along with infra-red LED with infra-red cut filter.
Substantial processing power and memory is included with the Tejas Camera’s octa-core ARM Cortex-A53 64-bit CPU and 16GB eMMC and 2GB LPDDR3 memory. A dedicated graphics processing unit (GPU) for edge computing AI applications is also included. This ensures ample recording capacity and processing power to help analyze footage in the cloud is enabled.
The Tejas Camera also features a 3,500mAh backup battery, USB type C connectivity for charging or power supply as well as in-built speaker and microphone plus 256GB SD card support for storage of recording. In addition, it offers on-board sensors for proximity, light, temperature and humidity. It also contains an accelerometer, a gyroscope and a compass.
Teksun says that organizations that adopt the Tejas SOM, Tejas Camera, Tejas TV or Tejas Tablet can save thousands of dollars on IoT hardware design and achieve their bill of materials (BOM) cost targets while also accelerating time to market. In addition, the solution offers support for Azure, AWS, IBM and Google Cloud.
“The Quectel SC600T is a perfect fit for our Tejas Solutions because of the small form factor, wide range of wireless connectivity choice and the Android 9.0 OS,” said Mr. Brijesh Kamani, the founder and CEO with Teksun Group. “The Quectel team has been highly responsive to our needs and understood all our requirements for creating this innovative new range of edge computing solutions. This really sets Quectel apart from other vendors, especially because of the in-region expertise they made available to us.”
Quectel’s in-depth knowledge of the market, backed by the largest R&D team of any module vendor plus a local team with many years of experience meant Quectel was able to help Teksun select the most appropriate module to meet its specific needs and objectives. The Quectel SC600T was chosen because it is designed to enable market-leading performance and offers a wide range of multimedia features plus Quick Charge 3.0 technology which make it ideal for both industrial and consumer IoT camera-based applications.
The SC600T module offers multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology which enables the use of multiple antennas at the receiver end at the same time and on the same frequency band. This greatly minimizes errors and optimizes the data speed. The module also combines high-speed wireless connectivity with an embedded multi-constellation and high-sensitivity GNSS (GPS, GLONASS and BeiDou) receiver for positioning. A rich set of interfaces, including a specific camera interface, make the module the ideal solution for a wide range of M2M applications that involve cameras and other connected devices.
“We’re delighted that Teksun has selected our SC600T module for its Tejas cameras,” said Michael Wallon, the vice president of APAC and ANZ at Quectel Wireless Solutions. “The attributes of LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS connectivity that the module offers, plus its small form factor and multimedia capabilities make it ideal for IoT camera-based applications. The Android 9.0 OS enables rapid integration and updating with virtual machines for storage and AI-enabled analytics of camera content.”
