Quectel conducts RTK validation in Europe for highly accurate GNSS tracking on the road

Recently, we embarked on an exciting journey through the major European cities of Paris and Berlin to rigorously evaluate the performance of our RTK (real-time kinematic) and dead reckoning modules LC29H and LG69T in various locations, road scenarios, and correction service conditions. We’re delighted to share our adventure with you, guided by the expertise of our GNSS Application Engineer, Axel Mo, and Field Application Engineer, Martin Rass.
Our road test setup was extremely comprehensive. We equipped our evaluation kit, featuring our GNSS L1/L5 RTK modules LC29H and LG69T series with active GNSS patch antenna YB0017AA, along with our high-end ground truth system POS320 and evaluation software, QGNSS. This dynamic combination empowered us to establish a robust testing environment, enabling us to conduct tests in the most challenging conditions.
RTK enables cm-level tracking from urban canyons to hillsides
Our journey began on the vibrant streets of Paris, renowned for its iconic landmarks and intricate boulevards. With Axel and Martin leading the way, we embarked on a unique exploration to rigorously evaluate the performance of our RTK modules LC29H and LG69T under diverse conditions. We didn’t limit ourselves to specific scenarios; instead, we explored a wide range of locations, from bustling urban streets to serene countryside highways. Axel and Martin meticulously examined how our RTK modules performed under varying geographical conditions.
In the heart of Paris and Berlin, the concrete jungles presented their unique challenges. Our experts tested the products amidst the bustling urban environment, narrow streets, towering skyscrapers because they understand that these environments can block the signal or cause severe multipath problems for the module. The GNSS robustness and RTK availability faced their greatest challenges here. Venturing into tunnels, we aimed to ensure that our modules continued to provide reliable data even when all GNSS signals disappeared. Our DR technology played a crucial role in ensuring that the vehicle remained in the correct lane.
Maintaining RTK performance under demanding correction service conditions
We understand that achieving high-performing RTK is not solely about the module; it also depends on correction services and connectivity. As a result, our road tests delved deeper into the performance of our RTK modules under varying correction service conditions and availability. Whether utilizing legacy correction services that support only a portion of the constellations, or modern services offering access to all constellations and signals, we emphasize the equal treatment of all correction services. Through these comprehensive tests, our goal is to guarantee that our modules are rigorously evaluated to deliver reliable and accurate positioning, regardless of where and how the module is been used.
