When IoT cares – connected smart pill dispenser
The world’s older population continues to grow at an unprecedented rate. Today, 8.5 percent of people worldwide (617 million) are aged 65 and over. According to a new report, this percentage is projected to jump to nearly 17 percent of the world’s population by 2050 (1.6 billion). The elder people often need caregivers and health care professionals, while in a world with ever increasing costs for treatment and pharmacists, it gets more crucial every day that the medication prescribed reaches the best treatment results possible.
It’s well known that an important factor in the success of medical treatment is good adherence. Thanks to IoT and advanced smart treatments the manually dispensing of medications into small plastic organizers is already outdated.
“Existing pill dispenser limits the patient’s ability to travel, and prevents the caregiver from having a real-time insight into the dispensation of the medicines. Pillsure Pocket is permanently and directly connected on-air to the mobile network, IoT platform and a remote application server, which controls and monitors its functions. It uses a new emerging LTE NB-IoT communication technology with strong penetrability, pervasive and ubiquity coverage, low power consumption and affordable communication cost. Patients have the freedom to be mobile and have the satisfaction of knowing that the correct medication will be dispensed and equally important, monitored by a professional remotely,” said Mr. Boris Sossa, the inventor of Pillsure Pocket & CEO/Co-Founder of Pillsure Limited. “The device will mount LTE BC95-G NB-IoT Module supporting Release 14 of the global 3GPP standard and GPS L80 module. Quectel has become a synonym of Quickness in today wireless module market place and I was convinced such naming is very much suitable and appropriate due to its outstanding agility and unbelievable low response time to customer’s tech and non-tech inquiries.”
Based on HiSilicon Boudica 150 chipset, BC95-G NB-IoT module is designed for global markets and supports multiple frequency bands of B1/B3/B5/B8/B20/B28 with extremely low power consumption. The certified module is compliant with 3GPP R14 specifications, and offers optimized performance in positioning, mobility, power consumption, data rate as well as security.
BC95-G is designed with an ultra-compact 23.6mm × 19.9mm × 2.2mm profile, and is pin to pin compatible with Quectel’s NB-IoT BC95 module and GSM/GPRS M95 module, which allows for smooth migration and upgrading with minimal cost and development time.
Featuring compact form factor, ultra-low power consumption and extended temperature range makes BC95-G an ideal choice for a wide range of IoT applications, such as smart metering, bike sharing, smart parking, smart city, security and asset tracking, home appliances, agricultural and environmental monitoring.
“The age of smart devices that allows direct communication to a service center with no human intervention has arrived. BC95-G is a ground breaking and pioneer series of Quectel NB-IoT modules,” said Mr. Tony Forrester, Regional Sales Manager UK & Ireland. “It was indeed an emotional moment for me to take part in developing an innovative product to offer medical remedy to the patient smartly and cost effectively. At Quectel we would be striving to making the world a better place to live by Connecting the Unconnected Things!”
