Quectel modules selected for Mexico smart streetlighting project
Greenapsis, a green-tech innovation company that specialises in IoT solutions for smart industries and smart cities has chosen the BG95-M3 and EC25-AU IoT modules from Quectel Wireless Solutions for use in a client project to connect smart lighting applications in more than 80,000 streetlights. The streetlights are located near the Mayan Riviera, and Greenapsis’s client has been looking for a way to automatically detect when streetlights are out of service. The Quectel modules have been utilized to solve these issues by enabling real-time status monitoring from any device.
The Greenapsis solution offers energy savings alongside the use of dynamic solar calendar schedules enabling lower operational costs and increased safety thanks to smart detection of faulty streetlights.
The Quectel BG95-M3 is a multi-mode LPWA module, which supports LTE Cat M1/Cat NB2/EGPRS and integrated GNSS. It achieves maximum downlink rates of 588Kbps and uplink rates of 1119Kbps under LTE Cat M1. The module’s integrated RAM and flash memory enables ultra-low power consumption, and the ARM Cortex A7 processor enables up to 70% reduction in power saving mode (PSM) leakage and 85% reduction in extended discontinuous reception (eDRX) current consumption compared to its predecessor. The BG95-M3’s highly integrated, cost-effective and compact SMT form factor of 23.6mm × 19.9mm × 2.2mm allows integrators and developers to benefit from its mechanical intensity and low power consumption and design their applications with ease.
It was great to work with the local Quectel team which helped us choose modules and assisted with technical details to ensure smooth implementation to our hardware. We chose the BG95-M3 and the EC25-AU because they satisfy the requirements of these IoT applications and because of the excellent and fast service from Quectel plus its local sales and technical support capability.

The Quectel EC25-AU is an LTE category 4 module in an LCC form factor measuring 32.0mm × 29.0mm × 2.4mm. The EC25-AU delivers maximum downlink rates of 150Mbps and uplink rates of 50Mbps under LTE, and multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology meets demands for data rate and link reliability. It is also backward-compatible with existing 2G networks, ensuring that it can be connected even in remote areas devoid of 3G or 4G network coverage. The EC25-AU is optimized for networks in Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, and Taiwan.
We are experts in the fields of smart industries and smart cities,” says Horacio Garcia Corral, a co-founder of Greenapsis. “Our passion lies in obtaining emissions reductions through energy savings for our clients and the planet and it was great to work with the local Quectel team which helped us choose modules and assisted with technical details to ensure smooth implementation to our hardware. We chose the BG95-M3 and the EC25-AU because they satisfy the requirements of these IoT applications and because of the excellent and fast service from Quectel plus its local sales and technical support capability.”
“We’re delighted that our BG95-M3 and EC25-AU IoT modules have been selected for this project to connect 80,000 streetlights in Quintana Roo,” said Ricardo Simon, Sales Director Latam at Quectel Wireless Solutions. “Innovative green-tech experts like Greenapsis are truly helping to build a smarter world and helping their customers harness the power of IoT to gain greater control of their assets. Enabling automatic detection of issues at the same time as achieving energy savings is something we’re proud to participate in and I’m pleased that our team has been able to help Greenapsis reach its customer’s goals.”
