Quectel and Tartabit partner to enable Microsoft Azure IoT Hub deployments with next generation IoT device data
Quectel is participating in a new partnership with Tartabit to enable seamless delivery of data from low power wide area network (LPWAN) devices to Microsoft Azure IoT services. The partnership utilizes Tartabit’s IoT Bridge offering to enable lightweight M2M (LWM2M) devices, which can reduce network traffic and SIM data plan costs by more than 70%, to enable closer cooperation with the Microsoft development community and IoT services.
LWM2M is an increasingly accepted means of optimising data usage and battery consumption but the transport method is not a natural fit with cloud systems that typically require specialized solutions to enable integration to common cloud systems. This new partnership has been designed to enable Quectel LPWAN module customers to utilize Tartabit’s IoT Bridge LPWAN Cloud Gateway Service to enable next generation IoT device data with Microsoft Azure deployments.
Tartabit’s low code approach offers native IoT data integration into Azure via IoT Bridge which brings critical data from the world’s most used IoT protocols and networks home to an Azure cloud. IoT Bridge manages the integration of devices directly into an organisation’s Azure IoT Hub, EventHub and CosmosDB, allowing any developer to rapidly integrate LPWAN data into their Azure environment.
Tartabit’s IoT Bridge enables IoT hardware, such as Quectel’s Evaluation Boards (EVBs) and modules such as the Quectel BG95 multimode (CatM1/NB-IoT) LPWA module to integrate quickly with the Microsoft Azure IoT service domain, thereby accelerating solution development speed. By utilizing this approach, innovators achieve faster time to market for Microsoft onboarding and synergies with Microsoft Marketplace for go-to-market.
Quectel has observed this increased development velocity among IoT Bridge customers. The module provider has also experienced a lower technical support overhead among IoT Bridge users in contrast to those that attempt to accomplish the same outcome with a DIY implementation. Microsoft also gains a standard onboarding model for the large number of Quectel module customers.
“We’re pleased to work with Tartabit and Microsoft Azure to enable IoT innovators to optimize their data usage and battery consumption by harnessing the power of LWM2M and LPWAN,” said Neset Yalcinkaya, VP of Products, Quectel. “These protocols were not designed to be ready for hyperscale cloud and, without a solution like Tartabit’s IoT Bridge, customers would need to spend more on data plans and suffer delay in their go-to-market as their data requires unique handling. We’re delighted that IoT Bridge provides a direct and rapid way to deliver data seamlessly to the Azure cloud.”
Fred Yentz, the CEO of Tartabit, added: “Tartabit’s IoT Bridge is all about making seamless delivery of data from LPWAN devices to Azure IoT services fast and simple. By partnering with Quectel we are providing the means for IoT innovators to link LPWAN devices with the hyperscale cloud and, by doing so, reduce network traffic and SIM data plan costs. This, in addition to improved battery life, can make previously unviable IoT business cases attractive, opening up important new possibilities.”
