North Star Systems selects Quectel modules to connect across the prairie winds
North Star Systems Inc, the developer of hardware and cloud-based collaboration software for the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) has selected the EG91 and BG95 IoT modules from Quectel Wireless Solutions to enable the latest versions of its Tattle Systems hardware. Founded in 2015, North Star Systems helps customers improve profitability and gain a competitive advantage with a range of software and hardware products that enable predictive business analysis, creating logistic efficiencies, and inspiring the way businesses serve their clients. The Canadian company’s primary market is agriculture, drawing on its roots in the agriculture industry, based in Saskatoon Saskatchewan, however the company is increasingly targeting other industries.
Tattle Systems specialises in logistics efficiency solutions, working as a complete and closed system, connecting sensor to device and device to the user through any smartphone, desktop, or tablet from any location. The combination creates an innovative, real-time controlled and remote monitoring and data solution. Client’s operations benefit from increased efficiencies, increased profitability, enhanced safety, sustainability, and compliance.
North Star Systems has chosen the Quectel EG91-NA LTE Category 1 module and the Quectel BG95 series of multi-mode LPWA modules that support LTE Cat M1/Cat NB2/EGPRS and integrated GNSS for its Tattle Systems hardware. Devices the modules will be integrated into include the LTE and LTE-M versions of Tattle 2020 as well as white-label products including the T3Lite, T3Pro, and T3Micro ready-to-go developer kits.
The Quectel EG91-NA delivers maximum data rates up to 10 Mbps downlink and 5 Mbps uplink, making the EG91 series an ideal solution for numerous IoT applications that are not reliant on high speed connectivity but require the longevity and reliability of LTE network.
The BG95 series offers maximum data rates of 588 kbps downlink and 1119 kbps uplink under LTE Cat M1. It boasts a cost-effective SMT form factor of 23.6 mm × 19.9 mm × 2.2 mm, the BG95 enables integrators and developers to easily design their applications and take advantage from the module’s low power consumption and mechanical intensity.
“All of our products work in extreme environments, such as very cold Canadian winters, on farming equipment, on the windy prairies, so we needed to find a rugged cost-effective solution that would deal with these challenges,” said Denis Levi, Chief Technology Officer of North Star Systems. “Quectel modules provide the durability and quality we require not just for the Canadian market but for deployments in the US, Mexico, Chile and Australia. We selected Quectel because of their reliability and the customer and technical support Quectel provides.”
“One of North Star Systems benefits is that we offer an all-in-one solution inclusive of hardware and software,” added Levi. “Our products give customers the ability to have visibility into the performance of assets and their applications in real-time, on one interface and remotely. Quectel has provided us with one of the best sales support experiences we have ever had. And it has been on every level from the sales team to the highly knowledgeable engineering team backed by responsive management.”
Peter Fowler, Senior Vice President, North America Region at Quectel, said: “We’re delighted North Star Systems has selected our BG95 and EG91-NA modules for integration into its Tattle Systems range of hardware. These devices are deployed in some of the most challenging environments in the world so this is a great opportunity for us to demonstrate the quality and robustness of our modules. We look forward to enabling North Star Systems customers with modules to aid connection of their assets and data.”
